CD69 surface expression does not require costimulation. (A) 2B4 TCR transgenic thymocytes were cultured with either unfixed (■) or ECDI-fixed DCEK (□) and different concentrations of p17. After 14 hr of incubation cells were stained with anti-CD69 and ethidium bromide. Percentage of specific deletion was calculated as follows: 100 × (% EtBr− cells without anti-CD3 − % EtBr− cells at experimental anti-CD3 concentration/% EtBr− cells without anti-CD3). (B) CD69 expression on viable (ethidium bromide-negative) thymocytes cultured with fixed DCEK as in A.
