Actin and intimin staining of C. rodentium-infected mice. Colonic sections were stained with anti-intimin antiserum to directly label adherent bacteria and counterstained with phalloidin to stain tissue actin. Large numbers of wild-type challenged bacteria can be seen in association with the surface epithelium (A), while only small numbers of ICC173, mainly luminal, were observed (B).
