Western blot analysis of cleaved caspase-3 after productive infection. Bovine kidney cells (MDBK) were infected with wt BHV-1 (4 PFU/cell). At the designated times (hours postinfection), cell lysate was prepared from infected or mock-infected cells. Western blot analysis with 50 μg of protein was performed with the antibody that recognizes cleaved caspase-3. To further ensure that similar levels of total protein were added to each lane, a Western blot was performed with an antibody that recognizes β-actin (data not shown). The arrows denote the two major cleaved products of caspase-3. The closed circle denotes the position of uncleaved caspase-3.
