Plots of firing rate as a function of head direction for four representative HD cells recorded in the LMN of four different rats. Plots were generated from data collected in 6° bins during 8 min recording sessions. These plots illustrate the different types of peak firing rates, directional range widths, and background firing rates found across LMN HD cells. Each cell exhibited a distinct preferred firing direction. The cell depicted in the bottom right was recorded from the left LMN, whereas the remaining three cells depicted were recorded from the right LMN.
