Percentages (in brackets) were derived by dividing the amount of a given lipid in the DRM fraction by the amount of the same lipid in the whole-cell homogenate. Cholesterol was assayed from the lipid extract by a colorimetric assay. Glycerophospholipids (GPL) and sphingomyelin were quantified by phosphorus assay, sphingomyelin being assayed after TLC separation.
