FIGURE 10

The number of hydrogen bonds between indole and the lipid carbonyl groups as a function of position in the bilayer for the various charge distributions on indole (uncharged, charge set 1, and charge set 2). As expected the amount of hydrogen bonding increases with the magnitude of the partial charges, suggesting at least a partial role for hydrogen bonding in localization.
