Localization of the motifs with respect to the transcription start sites. (A) The number of sites for motifs M1–M4 found across the OR gene promoter regions. The positions of the TSS (+1) and 600 bp upstream of the TSS (−100 to −600) are indicated. (B) The number of total O/E-like sites (sum of M1–M4 motifs) and homeodomain-like sites (based on the HAATTA consensus) found across the OR promoter regions. The distribution of TAATTG homeodomain sites, previously shown to be present in many OR promoter regions (Vassalli et al. 2002) and to be involved in the regulation of M71 expression (Rothman et al. 2005), is also shown.
