The SP from adult mouse tail epidermis. Cells freshly harvested from the tail epidermis of 9-week-old C57/B6 mice harbor an SP (a) that was ablated with 100 μM verapamil (VP) (b). Fresh isolates subsetted on α6 (c, x axis) and CD71 (c, y axis) surface phenotype into fractions enriched for KSCs and TAs were subjected to Hoechst staining to demonstrate that SP enrichment occurs in the KSC subset (d), whereas TAs are devoid of SPs (e). (f) CD34+ epidermal cells did not harbor an SP.
