Plants were coinoculated with different combinations of BMV ID RNA3 variants (as specified; see also Fig. 1). RT-PCR products were obtained from RNAs extracted from local lesions and analyzed as described in Materials and Methods. P1 and P2 stand for parental ID RNA3 variants 1 and 2, respectively.
