Experimental scheme for quantifying magneto-aerotaxis. Note that the spectrometer and cuvette holder are not shown for simplicity. The cuvette is placed in between a pair of Helmholtz coils set to null the vertical component of the earth's magnetic field. A magnetic field is applied by placing a neodymium iron boride magnet (25 mm × 25 mm × 12 mm) close to the cuvette so that the magnetic field is completely vertical at the centerline of the cuvette.
