The effect of ambient temperature on lifespan is not mediated by changes in locomotor activity or amount of sleep. (A) Total activity counts were not monotonically related to lifespan. For males (Right), there was little difference in activity levels at three temperatures, even though there was a >4-fold effect on lifespan. Female flies (Left) were more active and lived longer at 25°C than at 29°C. (B) The effect of ambient temperature on daily sleep amount paralleled that on total activity.
