Effect of dexamethasone (DEX) on PGE₂ and NO synthesis. Microglial cells (2.5×10⁵ cells ml⁻¹) were subcultured for 24 h in 10% FCS-containing medium, which was replaced with fresh medium before stimulation. Cultures were then incubated for 24 h in the presence of increasing concentrations of DEX with (hatched columns) or without (solid columns) 10 ng ml⁻¹ of LPS. Supernatants were collected and analysed for PGE₂ (upper panel) and nitrite (lower panel) accumulation. Data are means±s.e.mean of three independent experiments, run in duplicate.
