Area estimates can differ from table 2 because the TREES and GLC 2000 domains are different in Africa (Angola, Ethiopia and East Africa are not included in the TREES domain) and because semi-deciduous forests (dry dipterocarp forests) are included in the TREES study in Asia. Latin America also includes Central America in this table.
The FRA RS estimates refer to forest definition, which includes closed forest, open forest, long fallow and one third of fragmented forest.
Only the national statistics of the countries covering the TREES domain are included in the current table.
