Reactivation of CIA by varying types of LPS and lipid A. Mice were immunized with CII on day 0 followed by a booster injection on day 21 as described in Methods. On day 50, saline, 5 μg of LPS from E. coli, S. enteritidis, S. typhimurium, and K. peumoniae, and 2 μg of lipid A from E. coli were i.p. injected. The severity of arthritis was determined on day 50, i.e. immediately before administration of LPS and on day 55.
