Effects of the aminoglycosides on protein kinase C (PKC) activity in cultured canine cerebrovascular smooth muscle cells. PKC activity was determined in the soluble and particulate fractions of serum starved and (48 h) cells exposed to ET-1 (0.5 nM) (a) or PMA (160 nM) (b) for 60 min. The aminoglycosides, gentamicin (genta), neomycin (neo), kanamycin (kana) and streptomycin (strepto), were administered 30 min after ET-1 application, at the concentrations corresponding to their EC_50s determined in contractility experiments.
