Effect of the B₂ receptor antagonist icatibant on kininogen levels in the pancreatic tissue during caerulein-induced pancreatitis. Kininogen was quantified as the amount of immuno-reactive kinins after trypsin-treatment of tissue extracts. All tissue samples were taken at the end of a 2 h i.v. infusion of caerulein (CRL; 4 nmol kg⁻¹ h⁻¹) or its vehicle, phosphate-buffered saline (8 ml kg⁻¹ h⁻¹). Icatibant (100 nmol kg⁻¹) was given s.c. 20 min prior to the start of the experiment; control animals were injected with an appropriate volume (1 ml kg⁻¹) of a 154 mM NaCl solution. Significance of difference as indicated by the horizontal bars: ^*P<0.05, ^**P<0.01. Values are means+s.e.mean; n=4–7.
