Effect of E-Hb on AP-1 transcriptional activity. (a) DNA-binding activity of AP-1 was assessed after a 2 h treatment of HASMC with 10 nM of either N-Hb or E-Hb, or TNF-α (10 ng ml⁻¹). A representative EMSA is shown at the top of the panel. (b) AP-1 activity was assessed in transiently transfected cells. The different compounds to be tested were added for 8 h, after which luciferase activity was measured and corrected for protein content.
