Effect of M826 and MK801 on striatal cell death. Rats received an i.str. infusion of malonate (2 μmol) and treatment with vehicle (n=34), M826 (n=33) or MK801 (n=28). At 24 h after malonate infusion, cell death was assessed in the ipsilateral striata, using an ELISA as described in the Methods section. Both M826 (P=0.045) and MK801 (P=0.006) significantly reduced cell death. No significant difference was observed between M826- and MK801-treated animals.
