Effect of prostanoids on IL-1β-induced GM-CSF release. Adherent HASM cells were pretreated for 5 min with varying concentrations of PGD₂, PGE₂, PGF_2α, cicaprost and U-46619 before being exposed to IL-1β (100 pg ml⁻¹). Cells were maintained at 37°C in a thermostatically controlled incubator under a 5% CO₂ atmosphere and the amount of GM-CSF released into the culture supernatant was quantified at 24 h by a sandwich ELISA. Each data point represents the mean±s.e.m. of four to 13 determinations (see Table 1) using tissue from different donors. Indomethacin (10 μM) was present through the experiment.
