Effect of SCS on the β1 (a) and β2 (b) single point mutations co-expressed with α2 and γ2s in Xenopus oocytes. Data are normalized to the control GABA EC20 response immediately prior to construction of the concentration–response curve. Mutation of threonine 255 or isoleucine 308 in β1 to the β2 equivalent amino-acid was sufficient to abolish inhibition.
