Note that MSNs are shown receiving GABAergic inputs from both axon collaterals (black connections), and from a GABA neuron intrinsic to the NAc. CB1Rs are shown located on both MSN collaterals, and on intrinsic GABA neuron terminals, although the actual location of these receptors on these precise inhibitory elements in the NAc has not been resolved. The strong cortical glutamatergic input to the intrinsic GABA neurons that is thought to drive feed-forward inhibition of the MSNs is not shown.
