Effect of pretreatment of animals with pentoxifylline on mechanical hypernociception induced by carrageenin. Hypernociception was measured before and 1, 3 and 5 h after injection of vehicle (saline; S) or carrageenin (Cg; 100 μg) into the hind paws (intraplantar i.pl.) of rats. Vehicle (saline, S) or pentoxifylline (PTF; 1–9 mg paw−1) was injected i.pl. 30 min before carrageenin administration. Results are expressed as means±s.e.m. of the intensity of hypernociception (Δ reaction time, s) for groups of 5–6 rats.
