Coilin-positive nuclear bodies in differentiated UR61 cells are bona fide Cajal bodies (CBs). All cell samples correspond to differentiated UR61 cells treated with dexamethasone for 36 h. Costaining experiments for different molecular constituents of CBs show that coilin foci colocalize with SMN (survival of motor neurons protein product) (a,b), Sm (c), Gemin 2 (d), and U2B“ (f). The Sm complex also colocalizes with Nopp 140 (g) in the CBs of differentiated UR61 cells. Nuclear gems appear free (independent) in the nucleoplasm (b, i) or attached to coilin-positive nuclear foci (e), and are stained with antibodies against two components of the SMN complex, SMN protein (b, h) and Gemin 2 (e).
