Corneas of control and TLR9^−/− mice were treated as described in the legend for Fig. 2 and exposed to heat-inactivated S. aureus strain 8325-4. Neutrophils, corneal thickness, and haze were measured as described in the text. Data are the means ± SEM (error bars) of five mice per group. The P value was >0.05 for C57BL/6 versus TLR9^−/− mice. A repeat experiment showed similar results.
