Complementarity determining regions (CDR1–3) and numbers of amino acid residues were assigned according to the method described in ref. 21. Identical amino acid residues are shown against black backgrounds. (B) Immunoblot assay of cell wall extracts with CN 8 scFv. The cell wall fraction was prepared from the cells that had been cultured for 72 h in the TE-inductive medium. Cell wall components were extracted sequentially with CaCl₂, CDTA, 4% (wt/vol) KOH, and 24% KOH and then blotted on a nitrocellulose membrane.
