Survival of larvae (A) and adults (B) of B. antarctica under three constant high-temperature regimes, 20°C (●), 25°C (▴), and 30°C (■). Air temperatures in the midge's habitat during the austral summer are in the range of 0–5°C, but substrate temperatures on a sunny day are occasionally as high as 25°C. Data are expressed as mean survival ± SEM; n = 3 groups of 10 individuals each.
