Evaluation of the capacity to generate thermoprotection in larvae (A) and adults (B) of B. antarctica by first exposing the midges to a mildly high temperature before a higher temperature. Larvae are unable to generate thermoprotection, whereas the adults have this capacity. Survival is expressed as the mean ± SEM in three groups of 10 individuals each. Different letters indicate significant differences within each treatment series (one-way ANOVA with Tukey's honestly significant difference tests).
