The membrane-spanning domain (33 amino acids, residues 102–134) is highlighted in red. Mutations are indicated in bold. Note that 5 of the 7 mutated residues identified cluster within a 14-amino acid region (boxed). This “hot spot” is located near the C-terminal end of the membrane-spanning domain.
