Estrogen-stimulated Cav-1 KO acini up-regulate cyclin D1 levels in the absence of EGF. EGF-deprived WT and Cav-1 KO acini were either estrogen-stimulated starting from day 0 or left untreated. After 16 days, acinar lysates were prepared and subjected to Western blot analysis with anti-cyclin D1 antibodies. Note that estrogen stimulation increases cyclin D1 expression levels in Cav-1-deficient 3-D epithelial structures cultured in the absence of EGF (see asterisk). Equal loading was assessed by immunoblotting with an E-cadherin antibody.
