Enhanced growth of peritoneal nodules in SP −/− mice is associated with significantly diminished levels of ECM constituents. Immunohistochemical staining of peritoneal sections revealed defective Col I, Col IV, FN, as well as LN staining within and around the tumor nodules grown in SP −/− as compared to those grown in SP +/+ animals. Staining results shown are representative of at least three randomly-selected areas from serial sections of tumors from five different animals.
