Mutagenesis of the sll0088-like gene in Synechococcus sp. strain PCC 7002. (A) Restriction maps of DNA fragments from the wild type and the sll0088-like mutant. (B) Southern blot hybridization of the genomic DNAs of the wild-type and the sll0088-like mutant strains. In Mut1 strains a Kmr gene is transcribed in the same direction as the sll0088-like gene, while in Mut2 strains it is transcribed in the opposite direction. Genomic DNAs were digested by EcoRI and PstI. The hybridization probe was prepared with a 1.8-kb PCR fragment containing the sll0088-like gene.
