Antibodies for ELISA were used at a dilution which resulted in an optical density at 405 nm within the range of 1.0 to 1.5 when tested with homologous antigen (immunogen) as previously described (37). Absorbance values for ascites from the cell fusion partner P3 × 63-Ag8.653, which is a nonsecretor of Igs (control), were always <0.10 at the antibody dilutions tested. Similarly, the absorbance values for the anti-OmpA MAbs against Salmonella porins, LPS, and whole cells of strain SL 1917 (OmpA) were also <0.1 at the antibody dilutions tested.
