Culicoides sonorensis salivary gland extract inhibits NO production by murine macrophages. C57BL/6 macrophages were pre-incubated with 2 μg of C. sonorensis salivary gland extract for 2 hours and were stimulated with 10 ng/mL of LPS for 72 hours. Nitrite production by the cells was assessed. Salivary gland extract significantly inhibited nitrite production; P values are indicated in the figure.
