Expression of noxR Is Preferentially Induced in Planta.

Total RNA was isolated from perennial ryegrass pseudostems infected with E. festucae Fl1 (in planta) or from mycelia of Fl1 grown in axenic culture (in culture) and used for cDNA synthesis. RT-PCR was performed with primers specific for E. festucae noxA, noxB, racA, noxR, and tubB. To compensate for differences in endophyte biomass in planta versus in culture, a 1:80 dilution of Fl1 cDNA was used compared with undiluted pseudostem template.
