The al-3 LRR is sufficient to confer light inducibility on the hph reporter gene. Bottom, host wild-type strain (WT; FGSC462) and a representative transformant (BG3) obtained by transformation with plasmid pBG3 were grown on solid medium plus increasing amounts of Hyg in the dark or light (see Materials and Methods). Only the BG3 strain is able to grow in the presence of Hyg in the light.
