Percent hit rate and false-alarm rate (mean ± standard error of the mean) for controls (CON, n = 15) and patients with hippocampal lesions (H, n = 6) who studied either 36 single words or 18 word pairs. In the 6× condition, the same patients with hippocampal damage (H 6×) saw either 36 single words six times each or 18 word pairs six times each.
