Primary MEFs were allowed to quiesce in serum-free medium prior to induction with either FGF2 or HGF. mSulf1−/− (white bars) and mSulf2−/− (checked bars) cells showed a markedly increased mitogenic response to FGF2 as compared with wild-type (upwards diagonal bars). Exposure to HGF resulted in no mitogenic response in all MEFs. Results are expressed as the means (‘avg’)±S.D.
