HSV-1 glycoprotein gE/gI does not colocalize with capsids in axons of rat TG neurons. TG neurons were isolated from rat pups and cultured for 7 days in the presence of nerve growth factor. Cells were infected with HSV-1 (F) for 18 h, fixed, permeabilized, and stained with a combination of mouse MAb specific for VP5 (red) and rat polyclonal gE/gI-specific antibodies (green) followed by Alexa 594-conjugated goat anti-mouse IgG and Alexa 488-conjugated goat anti-rat IgG antibodies. (A) Scale bar, 4 μm.
