The TbRAB11-positive and VSG-rich carriers fuse with the membrane of the flagellar pocket. Cryosections were either labeled with anti-VSG (A and B) or anti-TbRAB11 antibodies (C and D) and PAG-6. The disk-like EXCs approach the FP in an orientation perpendicular to the plane of the target membrane (A and C) and then fuse (B and D). The arrows in B and D mark points of continuity between the two membranes. The endocytic CCPs in C and D do not react with anti-TbRAB11. The asterisk marks an exocytic carrier in top view.
