Both CBA and fructose were present at 1 mM in the filter support medium. The mean transfer frequency (standard deviation) was calculated as the number of transconjugants per donor cell counted after 24, 48, and 72 h of mating time. The transfer rate was calculated as the net increase in the number of transconjugants per donor cell per hour during the corresponding incubation period.
