The inhibitory effect of lysates of U-Cyt on B. burgdorferi number is dose dependent. Lysates of U-Cyt were incubated with B. burgdorferi (Bb) at 5 × 10⁶ B. burgdorferi organisms/ml for 1 h at 37°C and then at 33°C for 48 h for regrowth. The IC₅₀ (50% inhibition) was 8 B. burgdorferi organisms to 1 U-Cyt equivalent. The B. burgdorferi number was determined microscopically at 48 h. Inhibition is expressed as a percentage of the value for the control, B. burgdorferi incubated in buffer alone.
