Activation of the octadecanoid pathway by 35S::prosystemin confers enhanced resistance to spider mites. Fifteen-day-old wild-type (WT), def-1, and 35S::prosys (Ps) plants were challenged with 10 adult female mites on the terminal leaflet of each of two expanded leaves. Eight days after challenge, leaf damage (A) and egg counts (B) were determined for each treatment group. Data represent the mean and sd of 12 plants for each genotype. Different lowercase letters denote a significant difference at P < 0.01.
