Expression of UL28 protein from wild-type HSV-1 and UL28 mutant viruses. Vero cells were infected with the indicated virus at an MOI of 5 PFU per cell. At 18 h postinfection, cell lysates were prepared, separated by SDS-PAGE, and immunoblotted. The expression of the UL28 protein was detected using a polyclonal antisera raised against an Escherichia coli-expressed Cro-UL28 fusion protein (35). The left panel shows the insertion mutants.
