Inset: double labeling showing medial VSMCs with a positive TUNEL stain in the nucleus (brown reaction product) and cytoplasmic staining for α-actin (blue reaction product, APAAP method). One TUNEL positive nucleus shows the typical fragmentation which is a morphological feature of apoptosis.
