Exchange of RNA primer is catalyzed by holo E. coli RNA polymerase. The percentage of released primer (calculated from the ratio of free primer to free primer plus primer bound to the bubble duplexes) resulting from incubation with either holo (circles) or core (squares) E. coli RNA polymerase, as a function of active polymerase concentration.
