All sera were prepared from peripheral blood drawn on the same day.

BHU1-20 are the laboratory codes for the L. donovani isolates HMOM/IN/02/BHU1-20. All parasites were isolated from splenic aspirates taken on the same day as the sera.

The patients from the district Purbi Champaran were all from the city Motihari.

The patients from the district Muzaffarpur were either from the city Muzaffarpur itself or from villages around it.
