Transfection of EGFP/aMMP-3 increases the apoptotic index. The apoptotic index was measured by counting caspase 3-positive cells in transfected (GFP+) or untransfected cells (GFP−) in the same microscopic fields. At least 2000 cells were counted for each setting, and the results are the mean ± SEM of n = 3 experiments.
