Table 1.
Characteristics of amnesic patients
(WAIS-R) Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised; (WMS-R) Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised. The full-scale WAIS-R and each of the five indices of the WMR-R yield a mean score of 100 in the normal population with a standard deviation of 15. The WMS-R does not provide numerical scores for individuals who score below 50. Therefore, values below 50 were scored as 50 for computing means. Mean scores are also provided for four patients with histologically confirmed damage to the hippocampus (H: GD, WH, and LM from Rempel-Clower et al. 1996; RB from Zola-Morgan et al. 1986) and five patients with Korsakoff’s syndrome (KOR). RB was not tested on the WMS-R. Scores for MG on the WMS-R are the average of two tests. “Age” is the age at testing.
