Identification of phytol by MS. Lipid-extracted thylakoid proteins from 1 kg of spinach were subjected to alkaline hydrolysis followed by RP-HPLC. The eluate corresponding to the elusion time of phytol standard was collected, the solvents were evaporated, and the residue was derivatized to the acetate form.
