Phenotypes of Barley Wild-Type, xantha-g⁴⁴, and xantha-g⁴⁵ Seedling Leaves.

The plants were grown for 7 d in continuous light. The xantha-g⁴⁴ mutant is slightly leaky and contains trace amounts of chlorophyll. The yellow color of carotenoids dominates the phenotype of this mutant. The xantha-g⁴⁵ mutant is leakier and can form up to 20% of the chlorophyll present in the wild type. For this reason, xantha-g⁴⁵ displays a pale green color.
